I'm looking for a solution. My client wants to disable printing from the web browser. though, he wants to have his products to have a "printer friendly" version, on top of that.. he wants them to click on the "print me" icon and have them taken to a page where it asks for a password to print, that they need to call to get the password.
I know you can disable printing entirely with .css.. this is weird. any one have any advice? experience in this? how would you do it? USER: Hello Tech Support? I can't print... ME: Try cursive then <hang up> |

I don't think this is possible without taking control of the web browser of the unauthorized viewer (of course that's my opinion), but what about cookies and a login to see the pages your client don't want people to print...
With your web browser you have the control of what you see on the page. If the web browser could get the information, then you can get it as well. Your client wants to prevent people to print some page... Also he/she should consider the unauthorized viewer could save the page and then print it without problem... So I don't think there's a solution for this problem... Of course that's my opinion. :) Another idea is to make little screenshots of the pages, a little description of their content and of course the "print me" button "Beneath this mask there is more than flesh. Beneath this mask there is an idea, Mr. Creedy, and ideas are bulletproof." - V BTW: My username was elfenix |
