in order to crack the wep..i need to be root & i have no root =[..
goal: take down the network secondary goal: disallow port/site blocking on the network [disable filter] extras: exploit the network [supposedly a wep+40-bit key] | gain root from any computer [student or admin, keyloggers wont work here (teachers use theyre own & i dont have enough time to manage the installation on an admin macbook)] when i do all this..im going to be using one of the schools laptops [all max os x] so i dont risk getting caught @ home =]. any tips here are appreciated |

If that's your whole school network, then its really small.
Also, just a pointer 40-bits is the same as 64-bits and 104-bits is the same as 128-bits. It would be great if the school network was based on hubs instead of switches, then all you'd have to do is sniff the network in order to gain access to the stuff you capture. Unfortunately, hubs are nearly extinct. There must be a way to extract the WEP key from your current computer. Disallowing the school filter will be hard, since most filters are just a proxy. Unless your schools network has really bad security then you'd probably "disable" it by just removing the proxy. If not proxy is present, then tough luck, gain access to the default gateway and disable the software filter. I would scan the network for services and check if those services have known bugs. If not, try to find an exploit in the kernel (and then share with us the exploits) P.S: I don't know jack about Macs |

A hub is a multi-port repeater. Whatever signal is received at one interface of the hub is repeated out all the other interfaces of the hub.
A switch is a device that connects multiple computers on a LAN so they can communicate with one another and the rest of the network; but the packets in a switch are directed to a specific location instead of the whole network (like hubs) |
