FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions
What is ZeroIdentity?
Zero Identity is a project dedicated to all the computer enthusiast and security analysts. The aim of this project is to provide knowledge about security to all members, and to create a community that is active and helpful. We provide simulated scenarios and vulnerabilities, to know how it functions. Zero Identity is a safe, free, and legal environment for all to enjoy.
Is ZeroIdentity legal? When you talk about “security analysts” aren't you just using a more acceptable name for hackers?
It is true that a large amount of people on ZeroIdentity consider themselves “hackers,” however, ZeroIdentity welcomes anyone at all interested in computer security, not just hackers. The challenges on this site are based upon attempts to breach the security of the challenges. These breaches of security (in the challenges) are completely legal and work on the principal of if someone knows how security is breached, then that person knows how to stop it from being breached. We welcome all computer enthusiasts to our safe and legal environment.
What can I do to help Zero Identity?
You can refer your friends to join up. Post your signature on other sites to get people to notice. Link us around other sites that may contain members that would enjoy the Zero Identity experience. Just remember to use your referal link! Also you can submit articles, videos, ideas, bugs, and exploits to the staff. Also enjoy your time here at ZI.
What are the Challenges/Missions?
The challenges are the main way that a person learns about computer security. The goal of these missions/challenges are to show different ways that the security employed in each one is vulnerable to attack. For more specific information on the purpose of individual types of challenges, click the links on the navigation bar for that specific challenge type and there is a short introduction to them so that everyone can understand and get the full benefit of the challenges.
What is the "Skills Center?"
The Skills Center is a unique feature to ZeroIdentity that provides tests on multiple subjects so that your proficiency in a particular area can be accurately measured. Upon completion of the test you are awarded a “medal” which is displayed in your user profile for everyone to see.
What are points? What are “Ghost Points?” What is ranking, and what are the ranks?
Every time a person completes a challenge/mission they are awarded with points. The more challenges you complete, the more points you gain. You may see your amount of points listed on your user profile. Ghost Points, however, are an additional type of point that you receive when you help the community or site, write an article that is accepted, complete a Skills Center test, receive a Hall Of Fame entry, and many other things. The amount of points and ghost points that you have are added together so that you can find your rank. Your ranks are listed in your user profile, and give a general idea to people looking at your profile how much experience you have and time you have spent on the site.
What is the Hall of Fame?
The Hall of Fame (often refered to as the HoF) is a list of people who have found security flaws in ZeroIdentity and reported them to the administrators and staff. Because this is a security website, we are very security conscious, so if you find an exploit in our website, we surely think that you should receive recognition for such a great task. If you report a (major) exploit to the administrators then you will receive a Hall of Fame entry, listed on both your profile, the Hall of Fame page, and you will receive ghost points.
Who are the ZeroIdentity Staff?
The ZeroIdentity Staff are people who work very hard to bring you ZeroIdentity, keep it updated, and make it the best experience it could be. Please take the time to thank the ZeroIdentity staff if you feel the need. An updated list of the staff may be found here: http://www.zeroidentity.org/rankings.php?t=1
What is the codebin?
The codebin is a place that you can post your code for other people to use. As a computer site and community, code is always appreciated. You may submit your own code, or look through it to look at other people's code.
Is there a way to do referrals?
If you want to refer a person to ZI, then you can have them sign up at your specific referral URL. You can find this URL at the top of your “settings” page. For every person who signs up at your URL, you get a certain amount of ghost points.
What are BB Codes? and Which ones does this site support?
